Cape May biking trails

Biking in Cape May

One of the best ways to explore and see Cape May is by biking one of the area’s many biking trails. Each trail offers its own unique views, varying length, and stops along the way that make it worth exploring all of them.

So, grab your bike and head out on one of these Cape May biking trails this summer during your stay at Southern Mansion.

Biking Sunset Boulevard

Distance: 6.9 miles

Sunset Blvd. offers a wide shoulder for bicycle use, but it is worth noting to be aware of the heavy traffic along this stretch of road. Ride along Sunset Blvd. to Sunset Beach to visit the sunken ship or head out to Cape May Point. A true biker’s paradise, this route offers beautiful scenery with the end point at the historic and picturesque lighthouse at Cape May Point State Park.

Part of the Coastal Heritage Trail, Sunset Blvd. also offers several historic and notable sites that make for fun stops along the way.

A side trip off Sunset Blvd. that is worth taking is along Bayshore Road towards New England Road. This road will lead you to Higbee Beach Wildlife Area. The length of this route is a total of 7 miles.

Biking Beach Avenue

Distance: 4.4 miles

Probably the easiest Cape May biking trails, biking down Beach Avenue is the perfect way to see all of Cape May with beautiful views of the beach and ocean. While the Avenue can be a crowded with people, this is a classic choice for exploring Cape May.

If you start early in the morning, be sure to take a bike ride down the Cape May Promenade. During the months from May to October, biking is allowed from 4:00 AM to 10:00 AM. What makes biking along Beach Avenue and the Promenade are all the restaurant options along the way; making for the perfect opportunity to enjoy a breakfast or lunch break during your bike ride.

Biking Cold Spring Bike Path

Distance: 2.7 miles

Located in the Lower Township, the Cold Spring bike path spans from Seashore Rd. in Erma to Sandman Blvd. in Cape May. It is a great path that has no traffic once you get to the beginning point. Take Broadway to Sandman Blvd. and follow the bike path to the historic Cold Spring Village.

The Cape May Shoreline Ride

Distance: 46.7 miles

To see all of Cape May, explore the 46.4-mile Cape May Shoreline ride. The loop route begins and ends at the Cape May Lighthouse, at the southern end of the Cape May Peninsula. Notable markers along the way include the Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary, Cape May Convention Hall, Cape May Nature Center, and much more.
