These are unprecedented times we are living in but knowing how to make the best of it is what will get us through it all. As Cape May, and the rest of the world starts to slowly re-open, we wanted to provide a guide on how you can still enjoy Cape May while social distancing. With summer upon us, there is plenty to do in Cape May while still protecting your health and the health of others.
Cape May beaches now open
As of May 1st, Cape May beaches are now open, but with some restrictions. Activities such as walking, running, fishing, sunbathing, and surfing are allowed. So, get out there and enjoy a beautiful day at the beach. It’s one of the reasons why we love Cape May! Beach tags will be required as of June 6th, as well.
Note: Beachgoers are NOT allowed to sit on a beach chair at the beach, or on a blanket. Congregating in groups is not allowed nor is picnicking.
The Promenade is now open
The Promenade is now open, as well, with similar restrictions as Cape May beaches. Use for exercise like running and walking only. No bikes are allowed or use of benches is allowed. All restrooms will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Visit Cape May Point State Park
Cape May Point State Park is now open with limited accessibility. Enjoy hiking, fishing, biking, horseback riding, or get in the water for a kayak or boat excursion. Food concessions, pavilions, visitor center, restrooms, camping, and playgrounds remain closed. So, come prepared when you visit.
Order food to-go from a local restaurant
While you may not be able to dine in at your favorite Cape May restaurant until June 15th, many are offering delivery or take-out options. Below is a brief list of restaurants to choose from:
- The Mad Batter – take-out only, closed Tuesdays
- Chez Michel Bakery – open for pick-up, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
- George’s Place – take-out available with limited delivery. Visit their Facebook page for available times.
- The Rusty Nail – offering take-out seven days a week, order online.
Take a bike ride
Cape May is home to many biking paths and trails that wind their way through our beautiful town. Ride down Sunset Blvd to Sunset Beach or hop on Beach Avenue for beautiful oceanfront views. Do note that during this time biking on the Promenade is not allowed.
*Note: it is always advised when you leave your house to wear a mask. It’s the best way to enjoy Cape May while social distancing to help protect yourself and others.
