Cape May Point State Park

Spanning 244 acres, Cape May Point State Park features wetlands, freshwater meadows, forests, ponds, dunes, and beaches. Visitors can enjoy everything from hiking and biking to bird watching and fishing at the park. One of its most notable attractions is the Cape May Lighthouse. Many visitors walk its steps to reach the top for incredible ocean views.

Birdwatching

The National Geographic lists Cape May as one of the best destinations in the world for birding. Due to Cape May’s small peninsula, the area draws in a wide variety of birds during spring and fall migrations. Home to the Cape May Bird Observatory and several popular migratory areas nearby, birding in Cape May is one of our favorite things to do in Cape May NJ.

See the Victorian homes

Gingerbread trim, gables, and turrets are just some of the iconic details you will see from the Victorian Era in Cape May. With the highest concentration of Victorian homes (second to San Francisco), these details of Victorian style can be seen almost everywhere in town. One of the best examples of a historic Victorian home is Southern Mansion.

Willow Creek Winery

Located in New Jersey’s Outer Coastal Plain, surrounded by the ocean and bay, the Willow Creek Winery is an award-winning 50-acre vineyard brings unique local flavors and fine wines to visitors and locals alike. Premium sustainable wines are made from unique varietals of grape vines, produced and bottled on-site.

Take your time and stroll through the vineyard vistas and manicured gardens. Admire the property’s beautiful villa and enjoy a glass of wine on the brick patio while taking in scenes of our hand-carved, post-and-beam winery.

Biking

One of the best ways to explore and see Cape May is by biking one of the area’s many biking trails. Each trail offers its own unique views, varying length, and stops along the way that make it worth exploring all of them. For shorter distances bike Sunset Boulevard, Beach Avenue, or the Cold Spring bike path. For a longer journey, try the nearly 50-mile Cape May Shoreline Drive.

Enjoy fresh seafood

One of the best reasons for visiting Cape May is sampling fresh seafood from the area’s local restaurants. Great places to start are the Lobster House and the Cape May Fish Market.

Stay at the Southern Mansion

Of course, one of our favorite things to do in Cape May is stay at the Southern Mansion. Originally a residential home built in 1863, Southern Mansion was restored as a bed and breakfast in 1994.

Today, Southern Mansion stands tall as a beautiful reminder of what life was like hundreds of years ago in Cape May. Each one of our well-appointed rooms offers unique and historical furnishings in a romantic and luxurious setting.
