Best Places to Watch the Sunset in Cape May

Sunset in Cape May, NJ

It’s no secret, one of the top reasons people visit Cape May is for the beach and ocean views. While a walk along any of the sandy beaches at the Jersey Shore’s most southern point will give you beautiful sunsets, there are a few places, in particular, that are extra special. Discover the best places to watch the sunset in Cape May!

Sunset Beach

Just as the name suggests, Sunset Beach is one of the best places to watch the sunset in Cape May. Located in the Lower Township, next to Higbee Beach, this beach is the perfect spot to park your car and watch the sun go down on another lovely day in Cape May. Complete the evening with dinner at Cape May Fish House, where you can dine with a view.

Cape May Lighthouse

Still in operation today, the Cape May Lighthouse stands 157 feet tall and is an iconic structure in the town of Cape May. While not the original lighthouse that was built in 1847, it is comprised of the original bricks from the first one built. Visitors are encouraged to take the climb up 199 steps for incredible panoramic views of the Cape May peninsula and colorful sunsets.

Cape May Whale Watcher

One of the most popular excursions with the Cape May Whale Watcher is their dolphin sunset dinner cruise. Discover the Cape from a unique perspective with the sunsetting on the Atlantic Ocean. The cruise lasts two hours and begins at 6:00 p.m.

Cape May Kayaks

Enjoy the sunset from the waters that surround Cape May with Cape May Kayaks. They offer an early morning and mid-morning kayak tour, but one of the best times to tour with them is with their sunset paddles. Kayakers will paddle through flat-water trails and open waterways of the Cape May Salt Marsh.

Willow Creek Winery

End your day with a glass of wine in hand while enjoying colorful sunsets of Cape May at Willow Creek Winery. While the views aren’t coastal, Willow Creek Winery offers a luxurious setting for kicking back, enjoy a glass of wine, tapas, good conversation with friends, and of course enjoying the evening sunset. Join them for firepit Fridays from 4 to 8PM where you can listen to live music, sample some wine, food, and good times.
