While any time of year is a great time to photograph the picturesque seaside town of Cape May, the winter season presents an especially unique landscape. With snow-capped dunes, statuesque lighthouses, and Victorian villages, there is much to see. Discover why coastal winters here are so beautiful with these places to take winter photos in Cape May.
Cape May Lighthouse
With wind-swept dunes and a picturesque snow-capped lighthouse, there’s nothing that says “cosatal winter” than the Cape May Lighthouse. Located at the Cape May Point State Park, the historic lighthouse is the perfect place to enjoy expensive views of the ocean and coastline. The best time to capture the lighthouse is at dawn, just after a fresh snowfall, when the world seems to take a brief pause.
WW II Lookout Tower
Another historic landmark in Cape May, the WW II Lookout Tower is the last of 100 lookout towers remaining on the Jersey coast that was built to defend against potential attacks during the war. Today, visitors can enjoy stunning views from atop of the “concrete tower,” or discover different vantage points with the shots of the beach and dunes in the foreground.
Snowy dunes
When snowfall hits the coast, one of the best places for winter photos in Cape May is anywhere along the dune-filled beaches. Snow-capped sand dunes offer a unique juxtaposition of the summer beaches and winter snowfall.
Victorian village
If you happen to be visiting while it’s snowing, go for a walk along Jackson or Hughes street to view the row of historic Victorian houses. Or take a walk along the Promenade to view the row of colorful Victorian homes during a fresh snowfall. It almost feels like you are standing inside a snowglobe village.
Southern Mansion
Speaking of Victorian splendor, be sure to make a stop and a stay at the Southern Mansion. Our historic mansion, built circa 1860, is set on one-and-a-half acres of award-winning landscapes in Cape May’s historic district. Our 40,000-sq.ft.
