Welcome to our first newsletter on our updated new website. Enjoy Cape May News as well as news about the mansion. We are still a little bit of a work on progress website wise so please look for daily changes!

We are very excited about the new season and it’s getting so hot and sunny with gardens overflowing with lush peonies and irises.

Breakfast is being changed daily with local seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables added daily.  The crab eggs benedict was especially delicious last Sunday and my personal favorite this Spring was Cape May asparagus omelet.

We’ve upgraded the linens again to an even higher count and they create a soft cocoon of luxury to disappear in.

When you are staying here don’t forget about our little extras chocolate covered strawberries and champagne, our special mixed sweet trays, flowers, or a beautiful fruit and cheese platter can all add to the enjoyment of your stay and make it special!

If you are not sure what to order but you want to add that special touch ask the concierge. They would be delighted to help you with suggestions to satisfy your desires.

Please notice our gift certificates are now available online as well as many other great gift from our gift shoppe so you can have memories from your stay delivered.

2009 is a stellar year for special events, weddings , ad parties booked at the Southern Mansion. We are also now able to offer you help with our specialized event planning department.  Please also see our sister site with information on all types of events you can have in Cape May.

We are also delighted to share our excitement over our vineyard winery projects.  Please visit our  Willow Creek and Wilde Cock Wineries at 160 and 168 Steven St in Beautiful West cape May.  The Winery / processing/tasting and farm market room  we will soon be available for Winery/Vineyard Garden Tours, Wine tasting events and tours, vineyard festivals and special events. We are also going to offer special wine making classes and courses  for groups.  See work in progress at vineyard link.

If you are birder the vineyard is the super secret best birding spot on the island. Consisting of highlands, lowlands, wetlands, open field, and woodlands we have everything that makes Cape May the best North American birding area.  We have a ton of raptors and even a pair of our own resident pair of Bald Eagles  known fondly as Klaus and Gwendolyn. If you are a birder don’t miss a trip!

I do want to point out the garden that everyone always overlooks, my lovely shade garden which runs the back of the mansion along Corgie. I really suggest that you don’t miss this when touring all the gardens.  Shade gardens are always special and full of so many unusual and exotic plants. As always there are the back bones of hundreds of varying hostas and wonderful fern from tiny ghost and maidenhair ferns to huge ostrich and  cinnamon ferns.  Then there are the Brunnera, which are relics from the age of dinosaurs. There still is always color from the swaths of Astilbe, Primrose, Digitalis,  Nicotania, and  I recommend the shade garden as a quiet and soothing place for a glass of wine or picnic lunch on the bench for a respite from the heat of the day.
